Mrs. Alice Edward Adams Upshaw was born a twin on May 29, 1930, to Mrs. Clara Mae Adams and Mr. Charlie Adams, Sr. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifetime member of Ridgeville Baptist Church.
Alice completed her primary education at Ridgeville School in Forest Home, Alabama, followed by her high school education at Carver High School in Montgomery, Alabama. Alice earned her bachelor's and master's degrees at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, and upon graduation, she followed her God-given passion to teach at Braggs Hill School in Forest Home, Alabama. Alice expanded her teaching talents at Greenville Training School in Greenville, Alabama, and Georgiana High School in Georgiana, Alabama.
Alice was joined in wedlock to Mr. Cleophus Upshaw, and to this union was born one daughter, Dr. Allison Upshaw.
Alice was a genuine educator. With her, everything was a teachable moment, as she continued to instruct, steer, and correct until the very end.
Alice was also the quintessential lady, quiet and demure, yet powerful, wise, and inspiring. She expected and required excellence from her students, pushing them to their highest potential without exception.
Alice gained her heavenly wings on Monday, September 9, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 15 siblings. Alice leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted daughter, Dr. Allison Upshaw.
Alice was forever grateful for her dedicated caregiver team: Ms. Angel Sherrod, Ms. Loretta Green, Mr. Christopher Fritz, and Mrs. Charlene Washington Smith.
Finally, Alice leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and Facebook friends.
