Arthur Savage Obituary

On August 12, 1942, God blessed the loving parents Elijah “Dip” and Ruby Savage of Greenville, Alabama with a baby boy. They named him Arthur B. after the name of his grandfather.  He was the fifth child of nine siblings. On Saturday May 16, 2026, God in his infinite love and wisdom called him to rest. He answered “The Call” his appointed time was met, and his earthly service was completed. His father Elijah, Mother, Ruby, Sister, Tilda, brothers, Ishmon, George, Henry and L.J. preceded him in death. Three sisters, Ruby Jenkins and Dorothy Baine of Montgomery and Rachel Meade of Prattville and a brother Elijah Savage Jr. of Bradenton Florida and Dominic Rodgers whom he lovingly called “Lil Man” was a source of joy and shining star in his life and daily thoughts.

Arthur accepted Christ early in his life, he was baptized and joined New Bethel Christian Church, in Greenville, Alabama, which has been his home until his passing. He served faithfully on the Board of Deacons, the male chorus, church custodian, as well as other duties for the church.  While worshipping and serving under the spiritual Pastoral Leadership of Pastor Elder Tommie L. Means.

Arthur received his education in the Butler County School System of Greenville, Alabama graduating in the class of 1964. He grew up and lived in Greenville most of his life never leaving the city he proudly home with the exception for living in Montgomery, Alabama for medical reasons.

He married his sweetheart and then, the love of his life, Martha Ann Pugh and to this union two strong and independent sons, Michael Hosea, and Vincent LaTrell was born. Adding the blessing of the two beautiful and intelligent granddaughters Makayla and Brianna to complete the family.

Arthur was fully committed and dedicated to the City of Greenville diligently working for over 30 years of employment. Where he received the highest recognition of loyal services, making a difference in his personal commitment to improving the beauty of the city, performing various jobs such as Landscaping, decorating and cemetery beautifications. Sometimes, while visiting Greenville and traveling along the highway and byways of the city streets you can see and admire the fruits of his labor.

Arthur worked hard achieving a life of worthiness and success. He was employed at Perry Electronic for several years. He was co-owner of Sam’s Beauty Salon. His special gift of farming and livestock included buying and selling various livestock, especially horses, which was his pride and joy. He took pleasure in traveling and riding his horses and showing them off, while wearing his tuxedo and cowboy attire.

God in his grace and mercy has called him to rest. Although we are sadden of his passing, we also rejoice in God’s promise of eternal life. Because we know God has prepared a place for his prepared people.
