James Elbert Atkins Sr., born on April 1, 1954, peacefully departed this life to be with his savior on June 4, 2026.
James was previously united in marriage to Nell Atkins, with whom he shared his beloved children, James Atkins Jr., and Lashunda Atkins.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lucinda Atkins and Gehoda Atkins Sr.; his brothers, Jehovah Atkins, Tommy Atkins, and Henry Atkins; and his sisters, Lola Brown, Clara Powell, and Jessie Moultry.
James leaves to cherish his precious memory his children, James Atkins Jr. (Manisha) and Lashunda Atkins, both of Greenville, Alabama; three granddaughters, Jada, Mia, and Cailyn; two grandsons, Ja’michael and Jaden; and one great-grandson, Romontez Rhodes.
He is also survived by his brothers, Lewis Atkins of Biloxi, Mississippi, and Vincent Shepherd of Cleveland, Ohio.
James shared a special bond with his cousins, Harold Wilkerson, Rosie Wilkerson, and John Lee Johnson, who were very dear to him. He also leaves behind a close and cherished friend, Pearline Stewart, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
James will be remembered for his strength, his love for family, and the meaningful connections he built throughout his life. He touched many hearts and will be deeply missed. Though he is no longer with us, his love and legacy will live on forever.
