Mrs. Lillie H. Smith was born on August 13,1959, in Greenville, Alabama, the beloved second of four children. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1977, carrying with her a quiet strength and gentle spirit that touched every stage of her life.
In 1984, she was baptized at Oglesby Street Church of Christ, beginning a lifelong walk of faith. She later became a devoted member of College Street Church of Christ, where she found great joy in teaching children in Sunday School, lifting her voice in the choir, and serving faithfully in numerous church ministries. She had a deep love for hats and wore them proudly every Sunday.
Lillie treasured time with her family and found peace and purpose in reading her Bible. Her life was marked by kindness, humility, and a quiet but enduring devotion to those she loved.
Lillie’s legacy of love and grace will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew her. With her passing, the world grew a bit dimmer, but heaven welcomed a gentle soul. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have been touched by her life.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 43 years, Eddie E. Smith; her father, Thomas E. Pettaway; her mother, Sarah A. Murphy; and her sister, Loretta H. Moorer.
Mrs. Lillie H. Smith leaves to cherish her precious memories: her sons, Marcus E. Smith of Montgomery, AL; Marcellus (Shanna) Smith of Dothan, AL; and Emmanuel Smith of Greenville, AL. Gildon of Auburn, WA; her brothers, Shelton Trent Merriweather of Montgomery, AL, Jasper Lee Pettaway of Greenville, AL, and Thomas Earl Pettaway Jr. of Buford, GA; and her mother-in-law, Minnie Mae Smith of Greenville, AL.
