Lula Briggs Obituary

Mrs. Lula Mae Ingram Briggs was born June 27, 1935 and departed this life on January 27, 2025. Lula was the seventh child born to the late Ruby Peterson Ingram. Lula married Mr. Jimmy Glasco Briggs and God blessed them with two wonderful sons, Alphonse and Alvin. She was preceded in death by her son, Alphonse Briggs; brothers, James, Clinton, and Leavy Ingram; and her sisters, Katie Ingram, Allean Ingram Betton, Susie Mae McDowell, Edna Crenshaw, Johncie Lee Demings, Beatrice Washington, Ruby Lee Culver, Willia Powell, and Annie Ruth Ingram. Lula was an active member of Butler Chapel AME Zion Church and served as a Class Leader, member of the Stewardess Board, member of the Deaconess Board, member of the Cathedral Choir and served on the custodial staff of the church for many years.

Lula Mae loved sports and is remembered for her role on the Lomax Hannon High School basketball team. She loved football and you could hear her on Friday nights from 1974-2015 shouting, “Go Tigers!” She remained a Tiger fan until her death, as she slept nightly with her beloved Auburn Tigers blanket. Grandma, as she was called by her closest family, leaves to cherish her memories her sons Alvin (Roxie) Briggs, Greenville, Alabama and Christopher (Chenille) Chambers, Montgomery, Alabama; three grandsons, Marcus Tremaine Briggs, and Woodrow CeQuentin (Tikina) Briggs, Birmingham, Alabama, Wilbert Chauncey Fair, Phoenix City, Alabama; one granddaughter, Kandiss Raquell (Denzell) Stovall, Salt Lake City, Utah; eight great grandchildren, Ariya, Marcus Jr, Denver, Dallas, and Bailey Briggs, Tasmian Gamble, Austin Fair, and Chauncey Fair; four close nieces, Lucy Floyd Culver, Rev. Lessie (Harold) Simpson, Viola Betton, and Teica Ingram; a special great nephew, Zaccheus (LaTonya) Smith, Houston, Texas; a special great niece, Rev. Justala Faith Simpson; two bonus granddaughters, Lendice Williams and Aniya Carter; a very special family friend like a son, Patrick Davidson, and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
